Tammara Poa Siang Koh, MSc

PhD Student

Tammara began her academic journey in the Computer Science department at Stellenbosch University where she completed a BSc in Computer Science with Genetics as a second major, followed by a BSc (Hons) and MSc in Bioinformatics and computational biology, with distinctions in both her BSc (Hons) and MSc. During this time, she also worked as a facilitator and teaching assistant for second- and final- year science students, teaching them Python and its applications in the biological sciences, as well as LaTeX.

Currently, she is completing a doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics with the South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (SACEMA), at Stellenbosch University, with a specialisation in epidemiological modelling. Her PhD dissertation focuses on enhancing Hepatitis B virus (HBV) disease knowledge by quantifying the burden and trends of HBV in the South African population in order to reduce the transmission of HBV, the prevalence of chronic HBV cases, decrease the mortality rate, and align South Africa with the WHO’s 2030 viral hepatitis elimination goals.
