Olivier Adjagba, MSc

MSc Student

Olivier is a mathematical modelling engineer and a research master’s student at SACEMA. His current work focuses on estimating polio immunity across Africa and developing practical, user-friendly tools to support public health decision-making. These tools include an R package tailored for data analysts and an interactive Shiny application for health workers. Designed to accommodate a wide range of immunization schedules and data formats, they aim to support flexible, country-specific analyses. Olivier’s project also includes assessing the risk of polio (re)emergence across the continent.

He previously earned a master’s degree in AI for Science from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS-SA) in South Africa, supported by a Google DeepMind scholarship. His thesis, “Exploring the geographical links between environmental factors and population density on dengue incidence prediction,” applied convolutional LSTM networks to model the spatio-temporal spread of dengue, integrating contextual information from surrounding regions to improve prediction accuracy.

Olivier also holds an engineering degree in mathematical modelling from Benin, where his thesis, “Modeling the impact of Fall Armyworm infestation on maize yield,” applied compartmental models to understand pest-crop dynamics and assess control strategies.
